Panasonic's Lumix DMC-GX8 is its latest enthusiast-targeted Micro Four Thirds model. It takes many of its features from the GX7 that it surely replaces but builds them into a much more substantial body. A host of the features have been updated and upgraded, and we'll look over those throughout the rest of this story, but probably the most immediately apparent is the move to a 20MP Four Thirds type sensor: the highest pixel count we've yet encountered in this format.
This isn't interesting solely because the additional resolution it brings: Panasonic also promises around 1/3EV higher dynamic range and faster sensor readout. An updated 'Venus Engine' processor also promises more sophisticated image processing to make the most of its capabilities. This includes 'Random Filter' noise reduction, which tries to give a less repetitive, 'more film-like' appearance to noise in high ISO images.
Despite the increase in resolution, the GX8 can match the G7's continuous shooting rates: 8fps with focus and locked after the first shot or 6fps with continuous AF.
